On Tuesday 27 February, a delegation from Fuehrungsakademie der Bundeswehr (German Staff College of the Joint Armed Forces), led by Colonel (GS) Christian Musche, paid an official visit to NATO’s Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) in Stavanger, Norway.

The delegation was welcomed by Colonel Alfred Goertz, Head of the JWC’s Exercise Planning Division. After an introductory briefing on JWC’s mission, organization and current activities, the delegation was briefed on the Centre’s transformational role in the development and management of NATO’s synthetic scenario settings.

The delegation then received overview briefings on JWC’s complex exercise content development process as well as core exercise functions, such as the Opposing Forces (OPFOR), Modelling and Simulation to support distributed training and exercises and Media Simulation. Following the guided tour of the facilities, including the JWC Bunker, the visit programme at the Joint Warfare Centre concluded with a meeting attended by Polish Army Major General Andrzej Reudowicz, Commander JWC.

Based in Hamburg, the Fuehrungsakademie der Bundeswehr is known as the premier training and education facility of the top echelon of the German Armed Forces. The General Staff Course here has included a visit to the Joint Warfare Centre within its curriculum since 2007.
