STAVANGER, Norway – The Honourable Mayor of Stavanger, Ms Kari Nessa Nordtun, visited NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. The Mayor was welcomed by Rear Admiral Jan C. Kaack, Commander JWC.

During her orientation visit to the JWC, Mayor Kari Nessa Nordtun was briefed on the mission, organization and the capabilities of the Centre as NATO's premier operational-level training facility and footprint in the North. The visit programme also included a guided tour of the JWC’s state-of-the-art training facility.

“I highly appreciated the opportunity to become acquainted with the very important work of the Joint Warfare Centre in terms of strengthening the readiness and capability of NATO, which is a main pillar in Norwegian security policy,” Kari Nessa Nordtun said.

She added: “The Joint Warfare Centre is held in very high regard by our community. The very location of a NATO warfare centre in Stavanger is very important to us, as well as to our national security. And the highly professional personnel of the JWC, from 15 countries, certainly contribute very positively to our status as an international city.”

Kari Nessa Nordtun highlighted the cooperation between the JWC and the City of Stavanger during the coronavirus crisis and said: “I am most impressed with the high degree of professionalism with which the Centre is run, and want to emphasize the close collaboration of the JWC and the City of Stavanger during the current corona crisis. It is certainly my impression that the JWC has adapted well and efficiently to the situation.”

Rear Admiral Jan C. Kaack said the Mayor’s visit underscored the strong relationship between the JWC and the City of Stavanger.

“The City of Stavanger serves as an exceptional host to our multinational community from 15 Nations. In this beautiful city, we all feel very much at home,” Rear Admiral Kaack said.

He added: “During this pandemic, we have felt safe and well-informed thanks to the measures taken by our Host Nation and the Stavanger municipality.”
