STAVANGER, Norway – Rear Admiral Jan C. Kaack, Commander NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), and the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL), Senior Chief Petty Officer Lars Raabe, announced the winner of the JWC’s 2020 Military Member of the Year (MMOY) during the virtual All Hands Call on February, 5, 2021.

British Army Staff Sergeant Andrew Herron, Director of Management (DOM) Staff Assistant, was named the JWC’s Military Member of the Year (MMOY) 2020.

Rear Admiral Kaack presented Staff Sergeant Herron with the Letter of Commendation, a MMOY plaque, and a Commander's Coin. The Commander thanked Staff Sergeant Herron for his superior performance and professional excellence.

Allied Command Transformation's (ACT) MMOY Programme was established in 2003 with the first selection being held in February 2004. The Programme aims to recognize the vital role played by the non-commissioned officers (NCOs) of HQ SACT and its subordinate headquarters, and is an annual opportunity for senior enlisted members within ACT to honour one of their NCOs for his or her hard work and dedication to duty in support of his or her command and the mission of the NATO Alliance.

"I was absolutely delighted to learn that I was nominated for the Military Member of the Year. I have never been nominated for such an award in my military career, so I am humbled,” said Staff Sergeant Herron.

“I feel that the NCOs within the JWC are the legs to the body of the JWC; we are a small but powerful mechanism within the NATO machine. Now with the position of the Command Senior Enlisted Leader, we have a clear voice all the way to the top. It gives me great satisfaction to represent my service within NATO. Thank you JWC, and I look forward to continuing the journey with you all through 2021 and beyond to making NATO better each day.”

“I would like to congratulate Staff Sergeant Andrew Herron to the 2020 JWC Military Member of the Year Award. He has worked extremely hard and should be very proud of his achievement.
