Commander JWC, Major General Jean Fred Berger signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) on 20 November 2012 with the Commander Allied Maritime Command Northwood (MC Northwood), Admiral George Zambellas in order to further enhance cooperation between the two organisations.

The LOI states that the JWC and MC Northwood are to develop a mutually supported and supporting relationship to train the new NATO Command Structure and the new NATO Force Structure. Such relationships are carried out in accordance with the commitments taken at the Chicago Summit and NATO’s Connected Forces Initiative. The maritime aspect of NATO operations is projected to become even more important in the future. It was therefore decided that both organisations, in their assigned capacities, should aid each other mutually by sharing maritime expertise and capabilities.

This signature allows NATO HQs to address the main training and interoperability challenges for 2014 and beyond.
