The photo shows German Army Major General Erhard Buehler, Commander Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), introducing representatives from the Afghan National Security Forces to members of the ISAF, ISAF Joint Command (IJC) and Regional Command – West (RC-W) training audience during ISAF 13-02/UE 14-1 in Grafenwoehr, Germany.
The JWC is co-directing the Afghanistan pre-deployment training together with its U.S. training partners at the Joint Multinational Simulation Centre until 18 October. Approximately 1,200 NATO and coalition personnel are participating in the multi-tier exercise to prepare for deployment to various locations and commands within Afghanistan.
Based on the model from last year’s training event, ISAF 13-02/UE 14-1 is JWC’s third combined, four-tier exercise taking place in Grafenwoehr.
JWC’s Officer of Primary Responsibility for ISAF 13-02, Norwegian Lieutenant Colonel Thor Randulff, said: “Overall, this is truly a multi-level distributed exercise as personnel deploying to Regional Command – East (RC-E) will be trained at Ft. Drum in New York, as part of UE 14-1. Here in Grafenwoehr, the training partners are working closely with 70 Subject Matter Experts who have flown in from HQ ISAF and IJC and 12 key Afghan personnel coming from Afghan National Police and Army as well as various ministries and agencies of Government, in order to support the training and ensure its success.”
