A national memorial ceremony is held today, 21 August, in Oslo for the victims of the worst atrocities seen in Norway since World War II. I would like to express that all members of Joint Warfare Centre and their families stand together with our Norwegian hosts and friends at this sad time following the Oslo and Utøya tragedies.

The news of the attacks came as an incomprehensible shock, not only to me, but to all Joint Warfare Centre personnel, as well as nations around the world. The senseless loss of so many innocent lives and injuries to numerous others are devastating; yet the people of Norway stand united and will not let the acts of one individual harm the nation’s solidarity. Our solidarity with Norway remains steadfast.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the people of Norway, the victims, and their families. I do want to say to them that our thoughts are with them today.

Major General Jean Fred Berger
Commander Joint Warfare Centre
