STAVANGER, Norway – Rear Admiral Jan C. Kaack, Commander NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), and senior staff participated in a video teleconference (VTC) with Admiral Joachim Ruehle, incoming Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (HQ SHAPE) on September 9, 2020.

The VTC served as an introduction for the Admiral into the JWC’s mission, role, and capabilities as NATO’s footprint in the Northern Region.

It provided an update on the Centre’s main ongoing projects, focusing on the delivery of operational level exercises, as well as warfare development through doctrine, concept development, experimentation, and lessons learned.

Admiral Ruehle is the first Naval Officer to hold the post of Chief of Staff HQ SHAPE in the recent years; his last appointment was that of Vice Chief of Defence of the German Armed Forces.
 
Admiral Ruehle will assume his duties as Chief of Staff HQ SHAPE at the end of September.
