STAVANGER, Norway – Major General Piotr Malinowski, Commander NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), hosted the visit of Vice Admiral Guy Robinson OBE, Chief of Staff at Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT), on May 6, 2022.

During his visit, Vice Admiral Robinson received detailed briefings about the JWC’s ambitious programme of work as NATO’s premier operational- and strategic-level training provider, with a particular focus on the upcoming JWC-directed exercises, warfare development activities, and wargaming.

The Centre’s evolving role within the NATO Education, Training, Exercises and Evaluation enterprise, and advances in its communications and information systems were also part of the agenda.

In the afternoon, following a working lunch, Vice Admiral Robinson delivered a keynote address to the JWC staff during an all-hands call, where he shared his views and experiences as Chief of Staff to General Philippe Lavigne, the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) – a position he took over in July 2021.

“The Joint Warfare Centre has a fundamentally important role in transitioning to a multi-domain NATO.”

In his address, Vice Admiral Robinson expounded on NATO’s Warfare Development Agenda, the progress on the Concept for the Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area, and ongoing efforts on operationalizing the NATO Warfighting Capstone Concept.

He also highlighted Allied Command Transformation’s (ACT) recent work on the development of the initial concept for multi-domain operations, which underscores the importance of effectively operating across five warfare domains, particularly on future opportunities and collaborations for space and cyberspace.

Vice Admiral Robinson said: “I am very encouraged by all the work that you do in support of NATO’s Warfare Development Agenda. With the agenda’s focus on a 20-year military transformation of the Alliance, warfare development is the way ahead for the ACT family of which the Joint Warfare Centre is a key part. You have a unique mission in providing the bridge between Allied Command Operations and Allied Command Transformation, helping us in fulfilling the requirement for additional transformation in the Alliance. Moreover, the Joint Warfare Centre has a fundamentally important role in transitioning to a multi-domain NATO.”

Following the all-hands call, Vice Admiral Robinson participated in an exclusive interview with the JWC’s media team.

At the end of the visit, closed by a tour of the JWC’s state-of-the-art training facilities and a meeting with the Centre’s British civilian and military staff, Vice Admiral Robinson once again expressed his appreciation of the JWC’s contribution to NATO’s transformation and the excellent work performed by the Centre’s One Team to make NATO better.
