MAJOR GENERAL PIOTR MALINOWSKI was born on October 14, 1966, in Gubin, Poland. He joined the Military University of Mechanized Forces in Wrocław in 1985 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant upon his graduation in 1989.

From 1989 to 1995, he served in the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, first as a platoon leader and later as a company commander. His next assignment was the 5th Mechanized Division. From 1997 to 1999, Major General Malinowski was a student at the National Defence University of Warsaw. Major General Malinowski later took the position of a senior operations officer in the 17th Mechanized Brigade, and in 2000, he became a battalion commander. Three years later, he took command of the 10th Reconnaissance Battalion and was sent to The Hague to complete a NATO staff officer course.

In 2004, Major General Malinowski served within the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq for the first time, as the chief of a reconnaissance unit. Upon his return to Poland, he served as the Chief of Staff of the 17th Mechanized Brigade for another two years. In 2007, he returned to Iraq as a deputy brigade commander.

From 2008 to 2011, Major General Malinowski served at Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT) in Norfolk, USA. Simultaneously he completed postgraduate studies in crisis management and civil defence at the Higher School of Business in Gorzów Wielkopolski, and a planning course for NATO staff officers at the NATO School, Oberammergau. In 2012, Major General Malinowski became the Deputy Chief of Staff for operations in the 11th Armoured Cavalry Division. Once the restructuring process of the Polish Armed Forces started, he took the position of a team chief within the Organization Group of the General Service Command, and in 2014, he was appointed as Chief of the State Defence Readiness Unit in the Department of Defence Strategy and Planning of the Ministry of Defence.

In 2014, Major General Malinowski started postgraduate defence policy studies at the National Defence University of Warsaw, where he graduated at the top of his class. Later he took command of the 17th Mechanized Brigade. In March 2018, Major General Malinowski became Chief of Staff of the Multinational Division Northeast and was promoted to Brigadier General.

In November 2019, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the General Forces Command of the Polish Armed Forces, and less than a year later, in August 2020, he received his second star. Major General Malinowski assumed duties as the tenth Commander of the NATO Joint Warfare Centre on October 8, 2021.

Major General Malinowski is married and has two children. In his free time, he enjoys sports, particularly cycling.
He also likes to develop his strategy skills through reading history books and playing bridge.
